CNN has once again cast aside any semblance of journalistic integrity and is pushing their standard one-sided coverage, but now at a more feverish pitch – if that’s even possible.
I won’t link to fake news, so here is a screenshot of their headline today:
There are so many fallacies in just one headline and lead-in that I’m quite literally amazed. If you’re curious about my analysis on why the recount doesn’t even matter, check out that link.
Now, let’s break down the facts then correct this headline.
What We Know
- The election results, both certified and uncertified, appear to point toward a President Trump loss.
- December 8th is the deadline for states to choose their electors
- The Electoral College convenes on December 14th to cast their electoral votes for President and Vice President.
- No one can declare a president or vice president elect other than the Electoral College.
- Any attempt to do so is an attempt to predict what will happen. It is not official until the Electoral College convenes and selects their choices.
- Once the Electoral College chooses the next POTUS and VP, they have officially become President Elect and Vice President Elect.
- The SCOTUS has the final say when there is a dispute in the election process and will certainly be the final say in 2020.
How CNN is Wrong
Recently I wrote an article about how we win even if we lose. Essentially, the way the left acts is what is causing people to leave the Democratic party and become politically homeless. Trump and Republicans are just sweeping them up into a bigger and bigger tent.
This Headline is part of the lefts problem. Every aspect of this is incorrect and pushes an agenda.
I won’t go through the whole article as just breaking down the headline and lead-in will take up the entire article.
Let’s start with the headline: “Trump’s attempts to overturn his loss are unraveling.”
The entire headline is inaccurate starting with the phrase “Trump’s attempts to overturn his loss…” This implies he has lost already.
As shown clearly above, the Electoral College determines who the president is. This was made painfully obvious in 2016 when Democrats did everything they could to harass and intimidate Republican electors into switching sides and voting for Hilary.
The second part of the headline is “…are unraveling.” This is inaccurate because it has always been known the SCOTUS will make the ultimate determination.
Literally, every word in the headline is false.
I want to make it clear though, that the odds of a Trump victory in court is very low. While I hope he wins, the likelihood of putting together a valid legal case in 30 days or less to uncover irregularities and potential fraud is infinitely small. Investigations on this scale would take years generally.
Both can be true – his odds can be low (or Trump could ultimately lose) and CNN can be completely wrong.
“The President and his opportunistic enablers are injecting doubt — and anxiety — wherever they can. The returns, though, seem to be diminishing.”
First, just look at the choice in words – “opportunistic enablers.” There are several layers to this and all are rather deranged. First, they imply that Trumps supporters are both “opportunistic” and “enablers.”
Opportunistic implies that the people around him are there only to improve their own lot. It could be to earn some extra money, gain some political clout, etc. They’ve completely disregarded that many of the people around him may truly believe in him and his message.
“Enablers” is often used for drugs and alcohol addiction as a person who encourages that addiction. It can also be used as a person who gives someone or encourages someone to behave in a (bad) way.
I’m guessing CNN is going for option #2 and those opportunistic people around him are enabling his…destructive or whatever behavior they claim he has.
This is highly subjective and has no place as a headline piece. Republicans may think Joe Biden acts in a destructive way and Democrats may think he’s fine. The reverse is true with Donald Trump.
When the exact same argument can be made in reverse simply by changing the name, the argument has no logical value. It’s just a statement of emotion and belief.
Injecting Doubt — and Anxiety
When there is a disagreement between two parties and one sues the other because of an outcome, there is logically doubt and anxiety.
Yes, some people have doubt in the election system. Many have anxiety over who will become the president. These statements are true.
What’s incorrect is how they imply Trump and his “enablers” are injecting it. CNN is crafting an image of an evil drug dealer shooting heroin straight into your veins for you and destroying your lives.
It’s kind of sickening to read and break down.
The Returns, Though, Seem to be Diminishing
Is this true? Are they diminishing?
Everyone has known from the beginning the ultimate goal is the SCOTUS. None of the lower level court rulings matter regardless of what side they fall on.
While it would be more beneficial if all the lower courts rule in our favor and Democrats had to make the appeals, it was never likely to happen.
Courts broadly favor the other branches of government when making rulings and rarely intervene in election matters. Few people ever expected the lower courts to have any impact at all.
…and that’s why the headline is very misleading.
Now let’s take a look at the Fox News headline about the same situation.
CNN vs Fox News Headline
This will only take a few sentences because it’s factually accurate.
“Fight Not Over” – Truth. It will go to SCOTUS
“Trump questions Biden transition moves” – Truth. Trump is doing that. You may think Biden should or shouldn’t do it, but the fact is Trump is questioning it.
“President’s voter fraud battles continue” – Truth. It will go to SCOTUS.
It took only 3 lines to dissect the headline for Fox News and hundreds of words to break down how deceptive the CNN headline is.
We already know that CNN is foaming at the mouth and hates Trump. They are a left-wing media source masquerading as a moderate news organization. That’s why you have to respect MSNBC more because they never pretend to be moderate.
MSNBC is generally wrong and parrots left-wing talking points. But, they are open about being biased and aren’t deceptive like CNN is.
That’s the difference.
